John and Sherry's Story -
We moved into our new
Reynen & Bardis home located on the 8th green of the
South Course in December, 2001. When our 1 year builder warranty
repairs were started the contractor told us that our home has some
serious structural problems which would require further research
before additional repairs would be made. He stated in a letter he
sent to us that some of the other homes, including the model homes
had similar problems. The contractor said that after the model
homes were repaired they would have the procedures they need to
fix our home. Since then the model homes have been re-modeled and
repaired.
September 16,
2003 we received a letter from the builder indicating the
corrective actions he intends to repair our home. However, the
letter describes only cosmetic repairs and does not address the
structural defects that have caused the damage. The structural
engineer who inspected our home said that our floor is no longer
level and that it is now at least 1 inch off level from one side
of the family room to the other. The house is on a slab floor.
There are numerous areas in the house where this structural defect
has caused obvious problems. Doors that don't close, gaping
cracks in the sheet rock, flooring that has separated from the
baseboards, carpeting that no longer lays flat, etc. We are very
concerned that Reynen & Bardis will ignore the underlying
structural defects in our home and repair only the obvious
cosmetic defects. They have done this already in some of the
other homes in this development. We have contacted some of our
neighbors who have similar problems. Those who have used an
attorney to file suit against Reynen & Bardis do not seem to be
getting the structural repairs they need. The others seem to be
getting merely cosmetic repairs like replacing sheet rock,
repainting, and adjusting door jams and window sills. We believe
we are one of approximately 17 homes that were built on soil that
was not properly engineered for a slab foundation. We believe we
will have to join the others and file a suit against the builder
to get this properly corrected. Feel free to contact us if you
desire additional information.
We have attached a picture showing
some obvious damage. We will send you a few more as separate
attachments to other email messages to keep the size of each
message as small as possible.
